Sales Terminal Interface

The Sales Terminal Interface is a direct communication link between Berg Company™ liquor dispensers and sales terminals. Sales terminals are either Point of Sale (POS) terminals or Electronic Cash Registers (ECR). The terminals can be set to tally sales automatically as each drink is poured.

There are three main styles of interfacing. (There may be variations depending on the maker of the sales terminal or the provider of the software that runs on the sales terminal.)

• North American POS (NA POS) - This is a serial data interface with two way communication. In its most common form, pour requests are sent to the sales terminal. The pour occurs only after the sales terminal rings up the sale and acknowledges the request.
• European POS (EU POS) - This is also a serial data interface with two way communication. As with the North American, it most commonly waits for an acknowledge from the sales terminal before a pour occurs. The difference is that the sales terminal does not ring up the sale but rather logs it in a file for future use.
• ECR - This is a parallel data interface with one way communication. After the pour begins, data is sent to a Postech, Inc. board that has been installed in the sales terminal. The board causes the sales terminal to ring up the sale. There is no acknowledge.
